Vitalik’s $SHIB windfall had one very different ending — and he’s got receipts 🐕
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said he donated Shiba Inu ($SHIB) tokens to the charity Against Malaria Foundation after their value surged, generating proceeds far beyond what he originally expected. “If I Had Known It Would Turn Out This Way, I Would Have Handled This Altcoin Very Differently,” he said.
Buterin recalled that the $SHIB team sent half of the total token supply to their own public wallet. As the assets rapidly appreciated, the team sold some of the tokens and received approximately $70 million worth of Ethereum ($ETH).
He said he donated a large portion of those funds to the Against Malaria Foundation, which combats malaria. The market did not have enough liquidity for all of the remaining tokens to be sold.
Buterin then sent a significant portion of his remaining $SHIB tokens to the Indian pandemic relief organization CryptoRelief and the Future of Life Institute (FLI).
