Russia Opens the Crypto Door: $BTC and $ETH Get Retail Green Light 🪙

Russia’s Central Bank has authorized exchanges to admit retail investors to trading in Bitcoin ($BTC), Ethereum ($ETH), and USDT ($USDT), starting on November 17.

“From then on, exchanges will be authorized to admit these assets to public trading,” the central bank said in a release. Retail investors will also be able to acquire the assets through intermediaries such as brokers, managers, or crypto exchanges.

The purchase limit for retail investors will be 300,000 rubles annually, equivalent to around $3,700, for each intermediary. Institutional investors will face no purchase limits and will also be able to trade through major crypto exchanges.

The approval comes months after Russia passed legislation establishing a regulatory framework for the country’s crypto market. The measures extend beyond crypto transactions and are intended to provide greater regulatory clarity for crypto activity in Russia.
