Model Rumors Light Up the Crypto Timeline: Claude 5.5 and GPT 6.2 Astra Cited

—By our Markets Desk2 min read

Unconfirmed reports circulating on X suggest Anthropic is testing unreleased Mythos and Fable models while OpenAI is preparing to launch GPT 6.2 Astra. Neither company has confirmed the reports, which are based on several showcase demonstrations, a catalog entry and a hidden website label that were quickly removed after appearing online.

Anthropic’s Fable is the company’s highest-priced commercial Claude tier, aimed at writing software and handling office work. Mythos is a restricted model offered to selected clients, including government and cyber giants. Anthropic filed for an IPO, its first sale of shares to the public, on October 26, reporting $16.29 billion in revenue for the first half of 2026 compared with $1.16 billion a year earlier.

Anthropic launched Fable 5 on June 9, took it offline for 18 days under U.S. export controls and released Fable 5.1 on September 1. Opus 5.5 followed on September 22, with Anthropic saying it performs at the level of Fable 5.1 on most tasks at a fraction of the price. The latest speculation began on October 1, when users shared screenshots showing Claude still labeled Fable 5.1 alongside outputs they described as stronger.

On October 11, pseudonymous user Chetaslua, known for identifying signals of unreleased models, wrote that “Claude Opus 5.5 is routing to a new model,” adding that it could be either Fable 5.5 or a new Opus model. Routing sends a request to a different model behind the scenes, while some users suspect Anthropic is running an A/B test that presents a new version to a limited group while retaining the current on-screen name.

AI developer Shikhar, known for vibe coding a Spiderman game that went viral on social media, wrote on X: “Is this Fable 5.5? Saw posts that Opus is routed to Fable 5.5, so I decided to make a complex 2D animation with it.” The developer posted an animation they said used Opus and produced higher-quality results than usual. Leaker Min Choi later listed the clip in a roundup, describing it as: “A 30-second Spider-Verse-style 2D animation: a character on a city street, then a web-swing over the rooftops.” Shikhar presented the model identification as a question rather than a confirmed finding.
