XRP Wags the Tail: SBI’s Japan RWA Move Has Ripple Links, Not Direct XRP Involvement

SBI Holdings has proposed a joint venture with CRB Group to develop tokenized real-world assets, cross-border payment solutions and AI-driven financial infrastructure in Japan, putting XRP back in the spotlight without establishing a direct role for the token in the initiative.

The proposed venture would develop and distribute real-world asset-backed tokens, including loan receivables, alongside payment solutions built on the banks and payment systems of both companies. It would also explore agentic commerce, in which AI agents conduct transactions through specialized payment platforms.

CRB Group subsidiary Cross River Bank brings experience in embedded finance, lending, payments and digital asset infrastructure. SBI Holdings also plans to make a strategic investment in CRB Group.

The proposed initiatives remain subject to final agreements, regulatory approvals and the appropriate licenses. SBI Holdings has a longstanding partnership with Ripple and has supported blockchain-based financial services and XRP-related initiatives, but its latest announcement did not identify any direct involvement from Ripple or XRP in the planned venture.
