Buzz Exits Aptos, Takes the Meme Machine to Meta and Leaves $APT in Its Dust
Pseudonymous social media GIS meme creator BuzzlamicJihad has ended his advisory role with Aptos and shifted his attention to Meta, the parent company of Facebook, as he expands his trademark meme campaign.
Known as Buzz by friends and family, BuzzlamicJihad rose to prominence in early 2025 after his unofficial “community takeover” of Aptos helped pump the token’s value. He joined Aptos as an advisor in October 2025, telling Decrypt that he wanted to repair the project’s image and position it as a premium stablecoin network.
A year later, the contract ended without Buzz seeking an extension. “I didn’t see it going anywhere else, and some of the plans I had didn’t work out as intended,” Buzz told Decrypt. “So, I didn’t bother extending it and they didn’t seem willing to either anyways, so it’s mutual.” Aptos did not respond to Decrypt’s request for comment, and Buzz said he has sold his APT. Since the start of the month, APT has dropped 10.7% to a $607 million market capitalization, according to Decrypt data.
Buzz’s pivot to Meta is rooted in his previous work with Facebook advertising and his support for the team behind the social media app. Aptos was formed by developers from Libra, a now-defunct stablecoin project led by Facebook. After Aptos Labs founder Mo Shaikh stepped down in December 2024, Buzz bought more APT and began promoting what he called a “community takeover,” repeatedly claiming it had not been “priced in.” His posts included “Aptos lookin’ good here,” “sidelined?” and “motion not priced in yet.”
The campaign gained wider attention in February 2025 after notable influencers backed Buzz, helping the APT token rise 17% in 24 hours. Buzz’s departure comes as the former Libra and Diem network continues to lose personnel: Riyaz Faizullabhoy and Nassim Eddequiouaq, who left crypto custody firm Anchorage two years ago to work on Facebook’s crypto wallet, have joined the crypto division of venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z).
