Claude’s IPO moonshot gets a reality check: USD 2 trillion whispers, USD 1.5 trillion target
Anthropic is preparing a November stock market debut, targeting the week of November 9 to begin marketing shares to potential investors and a mid-November listing, although the schedule remains dependent on market conditions.
CoinGape reported that the proposed IPO could value Anthropic at USD 1.5 trillion rather than the USD 2 trillion previously considered. Investors are weighing the company’s soaring revenue against expensive computing requirements for its Claude models, fierce AI competition, and growing regulatory and safety concerns. Several AI infrastructure companies have delayed their planned stock market listings amid volatile market conditions.
Anthropic’s expansion of computing infrastructure to support Claude has created significant funding needs, with banks preparing USD 60 billion for AI chip investments. KBRA rated the company’s debt BB+, indicating a high to very high risk of default.
Alongside its IPO preparations, Anthropic has agreed to support a European AI consultancy with private equity firm Hg. The planned company would train and deploy AI engineers and consultants with European businesses, with proposed offices in London and Berlin and operations planned before year-end.
