No sign-off: Fireblocks rejects Visa’s $2.5 billion buyout report

—By our Markets Desk2 min read

Fireblocks, a crypto custody and infrastructure provider, has rejected a report that Visa is in late-stage talks to acquire it for approximately $2.5 billion.

“We are aware of the rumors about a possible acquisition of Fireblocks by Visa. This is news to us, and not true at present time,” a Fireblocks spokesperson told Cointelegraph on Thursday. BeInCrypto received the same response. Axios reported Thursday, citing multiple sources, that Visa was in advanced discussions to acquire Fireblocks for approximately $2.5 billion. A Visa spokesperson told Cointelegraph that the company does not comment on “rumors or speculation.”

The reported price would be almost 70% below Fireblocks’ last publicly disclosed valuation of more than $8 billion, announced following a $550 million Series E funding round in January 2022. Private fundraising valuations and acquisition prices are not directly comparable. Data provider Traxcn lists the $8 billion valuation as recently as Dec. 11, 2025.

Fireblocks makes software that allows banks, crypto exchanges and payment companies to securely hold and move digital assets. Its technology protects crypto wallets, controls who can approve transfers and connects businesses to blockchain networks, enabling payment providers to send stablecoins overseas without building their own blockchain security infrastructure. Fireblocks says more than $300 billion in stablecoins moved across its systems each month on average over the past year, representing transaction volume rather than company revenue.

Visa launched its own stablecoin platform in July and moved a stablecoin-powered Visa Direct funding service into commercial production this month. Rival Mastercard completed its acquisition of stablecoin infrastructure firm BVNK in August.
