JPMorgan gives $BTC a 10% halo—and a 55% volatility shadow
JPMorgan (JPM) expects bitcoin ($BTC) to deliver a 10% compound annual base-case return over the next 10 years, outperforming U.S. stocks, bonds and gold in the JPMorgan Asset Management 2027 Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions report released Tuesday, Oct 20, 2026. The forecast spans a 10–15-year horizon and marks the first time JPMorgan has put a range on bitcoin returns in its research. At publication, $BTC was quoted at $81,462.69.
The base case places $BTC above projected annual returns of 7.5% for U.S. large-cap equities, 7.7% for small-cap equities and 8.2% for real estate investment trusts. JPMorgan projects 5.6%-6.6% growth in U.S. bonds, including a U.S. aggregate bond yield of about 5.6%, and 5.5% for gold, making $BTC the highest-performing asset class in the analysis.
JPMorgan’s scenario range for $BTC runs from a bear case of -9.7% annually to a bull case of 17%, alongside the 10% base case. The report also estimates annual volatility of 55% and an arithmetic annual return of 20.9%, compared with the compound return investors may achieve over time.
Despite the ranking, JPMorgan has not incorporated $BTC into its strategic portfolio allocation models and does not make a case for it as a portfolio
