Sophon’s layer-2 is going offline: withdraw by Nov. 25 before the chain goes quiet
Sophon has set a Nov. 25 deadline for users to withdraw assets from its Ethereum layer-2 network before the planned shutdown of its mainnet, key infrastructure and related websites. Assets left on Sophon Chain after the deadline may become permanently inaccessible.
The team asked users to withdraw any Sophon (SOPH), Ether (ETH), USDC (USDC) and other assets, and to claim outstanding staking or Guardian rewards. Sophon said it will begin shutting down infrastructure and websites on Nov. 25.
Sophon launched as a zero-knowledge-powered layer-2 focused on consumer applications, including gaming, entertainment and AI. In June, its developers said the costs of maintaining a standalone blockchain no longer justified its benefits and announced plans to shift operations to Base, focusing on consumer finance and AI applications.
The announcement follows Abstract’s decision to close on Dec. 15. The consumer-focused Ethereum layer-2 was developed by Pudgy Penguins’ parent company, Igloo, which lost tens of millions of dollars supporting the network, according to a prior report.
Sophon raised $60 million through a node sale in 2024, after securing a separate $10 million funding round.
