Patient Zero: Whale Moves 411 BTC After 13 Years, Still Refuses to Sell the Top

A Bitcoin wallet inactive since 2013 transferred its entire balance of 411.45 BTC to a new address on Sunday, with the stash now valued at roughly $34 million based on a price of about $82,600 per coin. Blockchain data from Arkham Intelligence shows the wallet originally received the bulk of its holdings on Sept. 11, 2013, when Bitcoin traded around $131, meaning the coins have appreciated more than 600-fold since first being acquired. At the time of receipt, the full balance was worth approximately $54,000.

The transfer to a modern SegWit address, combined with a transaction fee of just 337 satoshis, points to a custody upgrade rather than an imminent sale, and the recipient address does not belong to a known exchange. This wallet is one of several long-dormant Bitcoin addresses to move funds this month, following two other wallets dormant for over a decade that shifted a combined 417 BTC one day earlier, and a large whale wallet inactive since before the Covid crash that migrated its holdings the week prior. The activity mirrors a pattern from 2025, when isolated mega-whales repeatedly stirred the market after years of stillness.

Over the past 13 years, the wallet itself saw no outgoing transactions, though it received dozens of small deposits, each worth less than a dollar, including several that Arkham labels as originating from phishing addresses. These tiny transfers are associated with a common scam technique called address poisoning, in which fraudsters send trace amounts of crypto to high-value wallets hoping the owner will copy the wrong address during a future transaction. The owner did not fall for the trick, and held the position through three halvings, the 2017 boom, the 2022 FTX collapse, and the launch of spot bitcoin ETFs in 2024. Bitcoin (BTC $82,780.88) has now sat quietly through every major milestone in crypto history, until this weekend's transfer put it back on the on-chain radar.
