Putin Plays Peacemaker, $BTC Plays Catch-Up: Bitcoin Knocks on $82K's Door 🕊️

—By our Markets Desk2 min read

Bitcoin climbed to near $82,100 on Sunday, October 18, as traders reacted to reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed a trilateral summit with U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping aimed at addressing the conflict in Ukraine. The leading cryptocurrency was up 0.98% at $82,099.25, according to TradingView data, recovering from an earlier intraday low of just under $80,800.

The price action traced a sharp V-shape over the session. Bitcoin initially pushed above $81,800 and reached a high of approximately $82,150 before sellers drove a steep pullback toward $81,000 and then toward $80,750, the session's visible low. A sequence of consecutive green candles then reversed the trend, lifting $BTC back through the $81,000 and $81,500 levels and beyond the $82,000 mark. Analysts flagged the $82,150 area as the next level to watch, with $80,750 marking support.

The geopolitical catalyst emerged from Putin's proposal, reportedly raised in a call with Trump, for a meeting expected in November to discuss a possible resolution to the war in Ukraine. The Kremlin has put the invitation forward to both Washington and Beijing, but U.S. officials have not yet officially confirmed attendance. The prospect of direct engagement between the three leaders drew immediate attention across global markets, with crypto traders linking the diplomatic overture to a bid in risk assets.

Market participants noted that Bitcoin's rebound coincided with broader anticipation of the summit, though the price remains within a familiar range established in recent sessions. As of Sunday, $BTC continued to trade just below the $82,150 resistance zone that capped the earlier rally.
