SOLANA'S SHANGHAI PARTY GETS RED-PAPERED: EVENT POSTPONED AFTER REGISTRATION GOES BRR 📈

—By our Regulation & Policy Desk2 min read

The Solana Accelerate conference in Shanghai was postponed after pre-registration surpassed the cap set by local authorities, according to Lily Liu, president of the Solana Foundation. Liu said in a Friday X post that event registration quadrupled overnight following publicity for the event, and that organizers decided to postpone to "comply with local requirements."

Earlier on Friday, X users reported that the event had been "abruptly suspended," with law enforcement officers stationed at the venue. In October 2025, a Solana event in Shenzhen was also cut short due to venue capacity and public-safety concerns, according to an announcement at the time from Solana's Chinese-language community account on X. Shanghai was scheduled to open the four-city Accelerate China tour, followed by Hangzhou on Sunday, Shenzhen on Tuesday and Beijing on Thursday, per the event's website.

The postponement followed Solana executives' promotion of a new Shanghai office earlier this week. China prohibits a range of crypto-related services, including token fundraising, trading and mining. In February, the People's Bank of China and seven other agencies tightened those restrictions in a notice that added new bans, including the unauthorized issuance of yuan-pegged stablecoins. Related coverage notes that White House crypto council chief Patrick Witt has stepped down.
