Solana Touches Down in Shanghai đď¸âCZ Spots It From His Binance Perch
Solana has established a physical presence in Shanghai, China, with the opening of an office in what Foundation Chair Lily Liu and core member Vibhu described as the world's "highest" commercial office space. The expansion was disclosed through an official statement accompanied by photos, and the development has drawn attention from the broader crypto industry, including Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, known widely as CZ.
Solana Foundation Chief Strategy Officer Rachel Conlan documented the move on her X account, posting images of the new Shanghai office as well as photographs showing the Solana brand featured across the city's skyline as part of an advertising campaign. The posts confirmed both the operational launch and the visibility push accompanying the office opening.
The Shanghai expansion comes against a backdrop of longstanding Chinese restrictions on Bitcoin and altcoin trading and mining. Despite the regulatory environment, the Solana Foundation has proceeded with the office launch and promotional activities, marking a notable corporate footprint for a public blockchain project in mainland China.
Changpeng Zhao, the former chief executive officer of Binance, publicly responded to the news, referencing the development in connection with BNB, the exchange's native token. CZ's remarks were circulated via his verified channels, bringing additional industry attention to Solana's Shanghai initiative.
The Solana Foundation has not disclosed specific financial figures, staffing numbers, or a precise opening date for the Shanghai office beyond the announcement shared by Liu, Vibhu, and Conlan. The organization also has not indicated whether the Shanghai location will house engineering, business development, or other operational functions.
The move positions Solana alongside a small number of international crypto-related entities that have established formal offices in China despite ongoing restrictions on cryptocurrency trading and mining in the country.
