Visa Direct Goes Live With USDC Prefunding, Stablecoins Now Pay The Bills 🪙
Visa Direct has officially transitioned its USDC stablecoin prefunding capability from pilot to commercial production, with payments infrastructure provider Inyo Global confirmed as the first enabler on the network. The announcement, dated October 15, 2026, marks a concrete step in embedding regulated stablecoins into mainstream cross-border payment infrastructure.
Under the live setup, eligible money transmitters, fintechs, banks, and payment companies can now prefund Visa Direct payouts with USDC in near real time on a 24/7 basis. Transactions route through Inyo Global's network, which spans more than 180 countries, and issuers can integrate the functionality without rebuilding existing core systems.
The production launch follows a series of stablecoin experiments Visa conducted throughout 2025, when the company tested prefunding and settlement flows across different corridors and use cases. Moving from controlled pilots to a commercially available rail signals that Visa now treats stablecoins as a standard component of its payout stack rather than a sandbox project. The development sits alongside parallel industry moves from Cross River, Circle, and Singapore Gulf Bank, all of which have expanded stablecoin-based payment and settlement initiatives in recent months.
Inyo Global's role as the inaugural enabler means it will handle onboarding, compliance checks, and operational connectivity for institutions connecting to the USDC-funded Visa Direct flow. By absorbing the integration layer, Inyo allows corporates to send stablecoin-denominated prefunding and settle into local fiat payouts through Visa's existing endpoints. Visa has framed the capability as a way to reduce prefunding friction, extend operating hours beyond traditional banking windows, and give treasury teams a programmable dollar instrument for cross-border disbursements.
The rollout also underscores how quickly the gap between pilot announcements and live product has narrowed. What began as isolated proofs of concept in 2025 is now positioned as repeatable payment infrastructure, with USDC acting as the dollar rail and Visa Direct providing the global distribution layer behind it.
