Machi Big Brother's $12.25M Hyperliquid Flex Lasts Exactly One Bad Day 🪦
Jeffrey Huang, known as Machi Big Brother, saw his Hyperliquid trading account collapse from a peak of $12.25 million to roughly $21,000 after a full liquidation on October 15, 2026. On-chain analytics account Lookonchain reported that Huang had grown an initial $56,000 position into $12.25 million over four months before the balance fell to about $21,800, wiping out nearly all of the gains. The account's near-total retreat came during a broad derivatives selloff that pulled Bitcoin below $81,000 and pushed Ethereum toward $2,380.
The Hyperliquid liquidation was part of a wider market reset. Bitget Research put total liquidations across crypto derivatives at approximately $811 million on October 14, with overall open interest hovering near $140.9 billion after the move. A separate 24-hour liquidation wave leading into October 9 had reached $1.09 billion, including about $1.05 billion in long positions, leaving bullish exposure especially exposed to further declines.
Macro pressure compounded the risk-off tone. September annual inflation was reported at 3.7%, above the 3.6% market forecast, a hotter reading that typically weighs on risk assets by raising expectations that the Federal Reserve will keep rates restrictive. The combination of elevated leverage, a hotter-than-expected inflation print, and a sharp drop in spot prices triggered cascading forced closures across exchanges, adding sell orders to an already weak market and accelerating the drawdown that erased Huang's account.
Lookonchain summarized the sequence in a post on X, writing: "Machi( @machibigbrother ) just got fully liquidated! Over the past 4 months, Machi turned just $56K into $12.25M through trading, and now he is back down to $21.8K. What a roller coaster!" The episode underscored how quickly leveraged gains can disappear when collateral values fall below maintenance thresholds, converting months of profit into a small residual balance within a single trading session.
