White House Crypto Council Now Hiring: Executive Director Slot Open, Résumés Welcome 📋
Patrick Witt has departed his role as executive director of the White House Crypto Council after his temporary government assignment officially expired, the White House confirmed on Wednesday. Witt had been detailed to the Council from the U.S. Department of Defense and played a central role in negotiations over U.S. cryptocurrency legislation, including the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act.
"The White House appreciates his service to the Trump administration and wishes him the best in his future endeavors," a White House official said. Before the confirmation, journalist Eleanor Terrett contacted the White House three times seeking information about Witt's position. Witt declined to comment publicly during that period.
The exit ends a tenure shaped by legislative maneuvering around the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, including support for new stablecoin rules meant to address concerns from both banks and cryptocurrency companies. Witt had also postponed his military service with the Georgia Army National Guard to continue his White House responsibilities and is expected to resume that commitment.
His departure deepens a leadership gap on the Council, following earlier senior staff exits that have left the body without permanent leadership. The administration has not announced a replacement, and no successor has been named as of Wednesday.
The timing also follows the CLARITY Act's recent setback in the Senate, a development that places further uncertainty over the trajectory of U.S. digital asset legislation and the Council's near-term policy agenda. Questions remain about who will steer the administration's crypto priorities next.
