Canada's Crypto Pipe to Asia Widens 141% — Remittance Rivals Better Brace 💸

—By our Markets Desk2 min read

Crypto remittances from Canada to India, China and the Philippines surged 141% to $2.36 billion year-over-year, according to a new Chainalysis report covering the 12 months ending June 2026. The three corridors together accounted for 194% of Canada's outbound cross-border stablecoin value, up from 10.9% the prior year, and generated 3.56 million transactions averaging $663 each. Chainalysis ranked Canada as the strongest peer-to-peer (P2P) crypto economy among G7 nations, citing the country's large foreign-born population and the cost of traditional remittance services as potential adoption drivers.

The Canada-to-Philippines corridor alone reached $61.02 million across 73,564 transactions, up 28% in dollar volume and 34.7% in transaction count, Chainalysis head of research Eric Jardine told Cointelegraph. The analysis tracks Bitcoin and stablecoin transfers above $10,000 to and from personal wallets, with Jardine noting the firm avoids limiting its scope to the smallest transfers to prevent "omitting real remittance value." Morva Rohani, executive director of the Canadian Web3 Council, said "Remittance corridors to India, the Philippines, Nigeria, Pakistan, and China are heavily used," pointing to data showing roughly 23% of Canada's population is foreign-born, the highest share in the G7.

Stablecoins now represent 44% of Canadian dollar-based order book volume as of June, up from 30% a year earlier, the report found. Chainalysis cited World Bank estimates placing the average cost of sending money from Canada at 6.7%, noting that low blockchain settlement fees do not account for currency conversion costs. The report also observed that Canada's domestic P2P activity tracked changes in its temporary visa-holder population since mid-2021, though it cautioned the relationship was correlational rather than causal. Previous firm data put global cross-border stablecoin flows at $220.3 billion, up 77.5%, in the year through June.
