Ripple Lands in Seoul's Securities Sandbox: Meritz Deal Marks Crypto's Capital-M Markets Crossover 🇰🇷

—By our Markets Desk2 min read

Ripple has entered a strategic partnership with Meritz Securities, one of South Korea's leading brokerage firms and a subsidiary of Meritz Financial Group, to bring Ripple Custody and tokenization infrastructure into the country's capital markets. The collaboration, announced this week, marks Ripple's first tie-up with a South Korean securities firm and the company's fourth partnership in the country this year, following earlier deals with Kyobo Life Insurance, Kbank and Jeonbuk Bank.

Under the agreement, the two companies will initially focus on tokenizing Meritz's existing securities book, with broader ambitions to expand into spot exchange-traded funds, fractional investment products, security token trading platforms and KRW-denominated stablecoins. Meritz Securities is positioning the partnership as a foundation for building institutional-grade digital asset services aimed at South Korea's retail and professional investor base.

Ripple Custody, the institutional storage and settlement product underpinning the deal, supports secure management of digital assets across multiple blockchains and is designed to meet the operational requirements of regulated financial institutions. The integration with Meritz is intended to give the brokerage a compliant pathway to issue, hold and transfer tokenized traditional securities alongside native digital assets, addressing a growing institutional demand for hybrid on-chain and off-chain financial products.

The announcement comes as XRP, the native token of Ripple's payment network, trades largely sideways while market participants await the release of US CPI inflation data. Meritz Financial Group has not disclosed a launch timeline for the new custody or tokenization services, and details regarding regulatory approvals, product rollouts and KRW-stablecoin issuance remain subject to further announcements from both companies.
