Stacks' $STX Surges 50% as Bitcoin Staking Lures Liquidity Beyond $BTC 🟧

—By our Altcoins & Tokens Desk2 min read

While major cryptocurrencies have moved sideways, Stacks' native token $STX has rallied sharply, climbing nearly 10% in 24 hours, 14% over the past week and more than 50% across the past four weeks, outpacing bitcoin ($BTC), ether ($ETH) and $XRP. At the time of reporting, $BTC traded at $83,696.96 and $ETH at $2,499.57.

The token's outperformance is drawing attention to Stacks' non-custodial bitcoin staking architecture, a framework that allows $BTC holders to stake and earn yield directly on the main Bitcoin blockchain while retaining control of their private keys. Unlike conventional models that require wrapping assets into synthetic tokens such as wBTC or routing funds through cross-chain bridges, Stacks uses a "bonding" mechanism that requires participants to lock up assets to secure the network.

The upcoming "Bonding Period 3," scheduled for November, obliges participants holding native $STX to lock a specific ratio of $STX alongside their $BTC — equivalent to roughly 5% of the total value of their $BTC — to secure protocol stacking capacity. As more $BTC enters the Stacks ecosystem, a growing share of $STX is locked and removed from active circulation, tying bitcoin liquidity directly to $STX scarcity. Period 3 follows Periods 1 and 2, which served as preparatory phases to transition signers and bootstrap initial liquidity.

$STX was not the only token posting double-digit weekly gains. BDX, REDNER and PYTH each added 6% over 24 hours, a signal of liquidity rotating into assets beyond the largest cryptocurrencies. The broader market backdrop, however, remains anchored to macroeconomic signals, with analysts positioning ahead of Wednesday's U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, which is expected to shape expectations for upcoming Federal Reserve interest-rate decisions.
