Hyperliquid's HYPE Machine Keeps Eating Its Own Tail 🌀

Hyperliquid Assistance Fund has accumulated more than 48 million HYPE tokens purchased for $1.36 billion, with the holdings now valued at approximately $3.95 billion as of Tuesday. The tokens were acquired through continuous open-market buybacks funded by Hyperliquid's perpetual and spot trading fee revenue, which are directed to the fund and converted into HYPE purchases that are treated as burned, permanently removing them from circulating and total supply.

HYPE's total supply stands at 955.30 million, with the token trading near $81.20 amid broader crypto market volatility. Beyond standard trading fee allocations, Hyperliquid activated its Aligned Quote Asset v2 (AQAv2) framework to repurchase and burn HYPE tokens using yields generated from USDC reserves held on the platform. The fund received its first payment of nearly $14.58 million in USDC routed under AQAv2 in early October, expanding buyback capital beyond routine fee collections.

The mechanism adds hundreds of millions of dollars in annual buyback capacity to the existing trading-fee stream, and burns have accelerated since the AQAv2 routing began. Tokens acquired through both the fee-funded buyback program and the USDC yield channel are treated identically as burned supply, reducing the float available on the open market. HYPE has appreciated substantially since the fund began accumulating, with the dollar value of the 48 million token stash rising well above the cumulative cost basis of $1.36 billion.

The Assistance Fund's buying activity has coincided with increased on-chain attention to Hyperliquid's stablecoin balances, which have grown alongside the platform's perpetual and spot volumes. The fund continues to convert incoming USDC into HYPE purchases at prevailing market prices rather than through scheduled auctions or OTC trades. Hyperliquid has not disclosed a target ceiling for the Assistance Fund's HYPE accumulation, and the program's structure ties future buyback pace directly to trading volume and reserve yield performance.

No further changes to HYPE's total or circulating supply have been announced beyond the ongoing burns tied to Assistance Fund purchases and AQAv2 reserve yields.
