MARA Ships 996 BTC to Galaxy Digital, Subtly Signaling Its Pivot From Miner to AI Landlord 🏗️

MARA Holdings transferred approximately 996 BTC, valued at $81.13 million, to an address identified as belonging to Galaxy Digital, according to on-chain data flagged by Lookonchain. The transfer alone does not confirm that Galaxy Digital executed a sale on behalf of the bitcoin miner. The move comes as MARA continues reshaping its corporate focus from pure-play bitcoin mining toward artificial intelligence and high-performance computing infrastructure.

The Hallandale Beach, Florida-based company has been steadily drawing down its bitcoin reserves to reinforce its balance sheet and finance its strategic shift. In March, MARA sold 15,133 BTC for roughly $1.1 billion, with proceeds primarily used to repurchase convertible debt. Treasury holdings fell from 53,822 BTC on Feb. 26 to 35,577 BTC by Aug. 7, a decline of 18,245 BTC over roughly five months, according to Bitcoin Treasuries historical holdings data.

Galaxy Digital's involvement in the transfer does not necessarily imply a market sale; Galaxy operates a range of bitcoin-related services, including custody and over-the-counter trading. The transfer was reported as the broader market continued to recover, with bitcoin trading above $82,000 over the past 24 hours.

MARA shares rose about 2% in pre-market trading on Friday to $10, while Galaxy Digital Class A shares closed at $20.09, down 6.14%. Bitcoin's recent price action has followed reports that President Trump ruled out strikes on Iran, contributing to a drop in oil prices and a broader risk-on move across crypto markets.

The transfer marks a more recent data point in MARA's evolving treasury management approach as the company balances bitcoin holdings against capital needs tied to its expanding AI infrastructure footprint.
