Robinhood Hooks T. Rowe Price: TradFi's $1.9T Whale Eyes Tokenized ETF Splash 🐳
Robinhood Crypto is in early-stage talks with T. Rowe Price Digital Assets, the digital arm of the $1.9 trillion asset manager T. Rowe Price, to bring tokenized exposure to an actively managed exchange-traded fund to Robinhood Chain, the company said in an X post on October 9. A successful outcome would mark the first Stock Token of its kind, according to Robinhood Crypto. "It would be the first Stock Token of its kind. Institutions are here, and our rails are ready," the firm wrote.
The proposed product would represent a Stock Token tied to an actively managed ETF issued on Robinhood Chain, the Ethereum layer-2 network operated by Robinhood. The firms have not disclosed a target launch date, and any agreement remains subject to legal due diligence, issuer board approval, final terms, and regulatory clearances in relevant jurisdictions.
Robinhood already lists more than 190 Stock Tokens on Robinhood Chain, including products linked to NVIDIA, Google, Apple, and the Invesco QQQ. The company describes these instruments as tokenized debt securities that provide economic exposure to the underlying U.S. stocks and ETFs, rather than direct equity ownership. Existing tokens have referenced individual equities and passive index-tracking funds, distinguishing the contemplated T. Rowe Price product as a first move into actively managed strategies.
T. Rowe Price, founded in 1937 and headquartered in Baltimore, reported approximately $1.9 trillion in assets under management as of its most recent disclosure, according to the company. T. Rowe Price Digital Assets is the firm's dedicated unit focused on blockchain-based financial products and digital asset strategy.
The discussions arrive as major asset managers expand tokenization initiatives and as crypto-native platforms seek institutional partners. Robinhood Markets, the parent of Robinhood Crypto, has positioned Robinhood Chain as infrastructure for tokenized real-world assets, with the latest talks signaling a potential deepening of that pipeline pending regulatory and corporate approvals.
