Anthropic Drops $150M of Claude Into the Government, Because Apparently AI Needs Homework Too 🧪

Anthropic has committed $150 million over three years to expand Claude AI access across more than 15 U.S. federal agencies, channeling the funds into scientific research spanning energy, healthcare and advanced technology. The announcement was made October 8 at the White House's Science: A New Golden Age Summit in Washington, D.C., and extends the company's existing December 2025 partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy, which first introduced Claude to scientists at national laboratories.

Under the three-year agreement, researchers will receive access to Claude, Claude Code and API credits to support federal projects. Participating agencies include NASA, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). Anthropic stated it will collaborate with federal laboratories on research involving fusion energy and quantum computing, and will provide training and technical assistance to help participating agencies launch their first AI research projects.

The Anthropic contribution forms part of the Genesis Mission, a White House initiative that has drawn $2.4 billion in AI research tools and computing credits from 11 technology firms. According to the White House, Nvidia pledged $1 billion, AMD committed $500 million and OpenAI pledged $200 million, while Google matched Anthropic's $150 million commitment. The combined industry support is intended to accelerate scientific discovery across federal research institutions.

Federal researchers will draw on Claude to process large datasets, model complex systems and accelerate experimentation in fields that have historically required extensive manual computation. Anthropic said the rollout will prioritize agencies with active programs in high-performance computing, biomedical research and materials science, with first projects expected within the current fiscal year.

The Genesis Mission commitments collectively represent one of the largest coordinated industry-to-government AI resource transfers on record, positioning Anthropic alongside Nvidia, AMD, OpenAI and Google as core infrastructure providers for federally backed AI research.
