Moscow Exchange Sets December 1 Crypto Debut — Bears, Bulls & Bureaucrats All Watching 🗓️
Moscow Exchange (MOEX), Russia's largest stock exchange, plans to begin offering crypto trading on December 1 under the country's new regulatory framework. The platform expects to support Bitcoin ($BTC), Ethereum ($ETH), Solana ($SOL), XRP and TRON ($TRX) as its initial listed digital assets.
Boris Blokhin, senior managing director for sales and business development at MOEX, said on October 8 that the exchange is currently running a crypto trading test with qualified professional traders. "This is a test environment for digital currency trading, testing the functionality that will eventually be implemented in the production environment," Blokhin said, according to TASS. "We will continue testing until launch. We plan to provide this cryptocurrency trading capability on December 1st, in line with the new legislation."
The exchange intends to use its existing trading organizer license and stock-market infrastructure to support crypto assets, a path that the new regulations explicitly permit. MOEX has already rolled out perpetual futures contracts tied to $BTC, $ETH, $SOL, $XRP and $TRX indices, positioning the derivatives products as precursors to the spot crypto offering now scheduled for December 1.
The December 1 launch date aligns with the timeline set by Russia's recently enacted digital asset legislation, which provides a legal basis for regulated crypto trading on recognized exchanges. By relying on infrastructure already used for traditional securities, MOEX is signaling that it intends to integrate crypto markets into the same compliance and settlement architecture that governs its existing equity and derivatives books.
The rollout is being closely tracked by Russian market participants and global observers, given MOEX's role as the country's primary venue for equities, bonds and derivatives. A successful launch would mark one of the first instances of a major emerging-market exchange bringing spot crypto trading under a fully licensed, government-supervised framework, with Blokhin's comments confirming the December 1 target as the next operational milestone.
