SaaS Eats Crypto's Lunch: Stablecoin Partner Mix Flips as Trading Gets Served Last 📊

—By our Markets Desk2 min read

Stablecoins are steadily shifting from a trading-driven market to a back-office tool for digital businesses, according to aggregated partner data from NOWPayments covering January 16 to July 16, 2026. SaaS and Web Services together with eCommerce Marketplaces accounted for 55.54% of classified partners in the 2026 sample, up from 48.26% during the same period in 2025, a 7.28-percentage-point increase and a 15.08% rise in their combined share year over year. The data was published by the Estonia-headquartered company from its base in Tallinn on October 8th, 2026, through a Chainwire release.

The largest single gain came from SaaS and Web Services, whose share rose from 15.58% in 2025 to 27.78% in 2026, an increase of 12.20 percentage points and the steepest move in the nine-category dataset. eCommerce Marketplaces, which led the 2025 sample at 32.68%, slipped to 27.76% in 2026, leaving the two sectors separated by just 0.02 percentage points. Trading, the category most associated with crypto's traditional user base, moved in the opposite direction, declining from 14.07% to 13.15% and falling to third place.

Other categories shifted more modestly. Financial Services moved from 9.00% to 6.35%, while Gambling and iGaming edged up from 6.20% to 6.87% and adult platforms rose from 4.99% to 5.89%. Charity declined from 2.27% to 1.40%, and TGE/Presale fell from 2.12% to 1.35%. NOWPayments noted the figures reflect each industry's share of the aggregated partner sample rather than absolute partner growth, with each period normalized across the same nine categories.

The company framed the data as a warning to businesses choosing stablecoin infrastructure primarily as a coin-and-network decision. In its release, NOWPayments said digital businesses may need to support a broader set of operating workflows, including billing, checkout, settlement, payouts, and reconciliation, with the priority depending on the business model. The "Partner Mix Is Shifting Toward Operational Use Cases" section of the release emphasized that the emerging picture is not stablecoins replacing trading but stablecoin adoption expanding into the operating infrastructure of digital businesses.
