Dalio Sees AI Bubble 'Close to the Pin' — Bitcoin Tagged as Collateral Damage, Not Safe Haven 🪡

Bridgewater Associates founder Ray Dalio said at the Forbes Global CEO Conference in Singapore on October 7 that the AI bubble is showing "classic" traits and is approaching the point at which forced asset liquidation could pop it, sending a fresh chill through markets already strained by high bond yields and debt-heavy technology spending. Dalio framed the risk in mechanical terms, noting that bubbles typically break when paper wealth must be converted into cash to meet taxes, margin calls or loan repayments, and that a signaled Federal Reserve rate pause in October offered only a brief reprieve.

He pointed to debt-financed AI capital expenditure colliding with surging bond yields, citing large compute arrangements including Anthropic's $84.5B SpaceX compute agreement as evidence of the scale of leverage now embedded in the buildout. Dalio, who has separately warned of a broader debt imbalance that could trigger a financial crisis within two to three years, zeroed in on forced asset liquidation as the catalyst that would translate stretched balance sheets into market dislocation.

On hedges, Dalio said he favors gold over Bitcoin, arguing that $BTC could first decline alongside technology stocks before any safe-haven demand emerges. He framed the distinction in terms of how each asset has historically behaved during liquidity-driven selloffs, positioning gold as the more established buffer against debt-cycle stress while casting $BTC as still correlated to risk assets in the near term.

The remarks come as investors weigh the interplay between AI-related capex, elevated Treasury yields and tightening financial conditions, with Dalio's comments adding to a growing chorus of warnings about stretched valuations in the sector. The Forbes Global CEO Conference in Singapore served as the venue for the latest escalation of his public concerns, and market participants are likely to parse his comments alongside upcoming Fed communications and quarterly earnings from major technology issuers.
