Robinhood 25M Bit-Con-fession: Kerbrat Spills the BTC Beans at Token2049 🥞

—By our Markets Desk2 min read

Robinhood has placed $25,000,000 of BTC directly on its corporate balance sheet, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Crypto and International Johann Kerbrat confirmed Wednesday at the Token2049 conference in Singapore. The disclosure, made during a fireside chat with Crypto Banter founder Ran Neuner on October 7, marks the first time the commission-free brokerage has held bitcoin in its own treasury rather than solely in customer custody accounts.

Speaking on The Starting Block broadcast at DAS Asia, Kerbrat framed the allocation as a signal of institutional conviction. "Robinhood is a massive company at this point, with a market cap in the $100 billion [range]. So the $25 million worth of bitcoin is not going to change a lot of the current trajectory of the company," he said. He added that the move reflects how deeply the firm cares about bitcoin and the surrounding ecosystem. CoinDesk separately contacted Robinhood's press team for further comment on potential future token acquisitions.

The purchase places Robinhood within a growing cohort of public companies treating BTC as a treasury reserve asset, a trend initiated by Nasdaq-listed Strategy (MSTR) in 2020 and now followed by more than 170 firms worldwide. Existing corporate holders include Tesla, MARA Holdings, CleanSpark, Riot Platforms, and Block, whose combined treasuries account for well over 1,200,000 BTC.

Robinhood, which reports more than 28,000,000 funded customers globally, has steadily expanded its crypto footprint beyond brokerage services. In July the company launched Robinhood Chain, an Ethereum ($ETH)-compatible Layer 2 built on Arbitrum designed for tokenized real-world assets and decentralized finance. Since mainnet launch, the chain has introduced tokenized stock products, a stablecoin (USDG), and yield-bearing lending via Robinhood Earn, alongside integrations with Uniswap, Chainlink, Alchemy, and BitGo.

At press time, Robinhood shares (HOOD) last closed at $112.00, while BTC traded at $83,977.71, down 2.31% on the session.
