Small Altcoins Throw a Party While $BTC Hovers Near $85K Like It Forgot the Invite
Bitway's BTW token led a broad rally among smaller cryptocurrencies, climbing 25% in the past 24 hours and 170% over the past 30 days, according to data cited in market reports. The token is the native asset of Bitway, a bitcoin-compatible layer-1 blockchain with proof-of-stake consensus and decentralized finance infrastructure. The surge in social media chatter followed the conclusion of Binance Wallet's "Booster Season 5" campaign on Oct. 2, which offered rewards for deposits and may have lifted retail engagement. BTW's gains fit a wider rotation into lower-cap tokens: Filecoin's FIL rose 12% and LayerZero's ZRO advanced 10% in 24 hours, with both up 50% or more over four weeks, while Midnight's NIGHT added 8% over the same 24-hour window. At the other end of the leaderboard, SKY, VVV and DASH were the three worst performers among the 100 largest tokens by market capitalization.
Bitcoin $BTC remained range-bound, trading near $85,900 after dipping to lows around $85,000 earlier in the session, with ether $ETH at $2,615.94. Alex Kuptsikevich, chief market analyst at TheFxPro, warned that further downside is on the table. "A break below $84K would signal a victory for the bears, and a break below the recent local lows at $83K would confirm this with even greater certainty. In this scenario, the leading cryptocurrency could fall to $80K fairly quickly," he said.
Derivatives positioning has stabilized after a busy Friday. BTC futures open interest held nearly flat at $21.9 billion, down from $22.0 billion, and 24-hour liquidations reached $163 million. Funding rates cooled, now broadly 0–5% annualized across venues, down from an earlier 4–10% range, while the three-month annualized basis held steady at 5–6%. Options activity stayed call-skewed, with the 24-hour put/call volume ratio at 62/38 in favor of calls, the one-week 25-delta skew at roughly -2%, and the at-the-money term structure still in contango, with the front end near 24–25% rising to about 39% by late 2027.
