Ripple Plants Its Flag in Turkey: Custody Deployed, RLUSD Riding the Lira Express 🚆

—By our Markets Desk2 min read

Ripple is positioning Turkey as a flagship digital-asset market, citing an already-operational footprint that spans bank-grade custody, live stablecoin distribution and a regulated framework built after the country's 2024 crypto law, No. 7518. A Ripple Insights piece published October 5 frames the push as a response to genuine currency pressure rather than speculative demand, noting that retail crypto trading volume climbed 7% year-on-year to roughly $40 billion in early 2026. That activity lifted Turkey from seventh to fifth place in a global adoption ranking Ripple cites, underscoring how quickly the market has matured inside a licensed, bank-supervised environment rather than a grey zone.

Garanti BBVA Kripto, the digital-assets arm of Turkey's second-largest private bank, now runs on Ripple Custody at full scale. The arrangement began as a 2023 pilot and has since been expanded across the platform, giving institutional and retail users access to custody infrastructure tied directly into a major Turkish lender. Ripple's stablecoin RLUSD is also live on Turkish exchanges BiLira, Bitlo and Bitexen, extending its distribution footprint into a market where price-stable digital dollars are in structural demand.

Turkey's regulatory trajectory forms a key part of Ripple's pitch. Law No. 7518, enacted in 2024, set out licensing, operating and consumer-protection rules for crypto service providers, and 2026 custody regulations have since clarified how qualified custodians must hold client assets. Ripple describes the combined regime as bank-grade, allowing it to deploy institutional infrastructure without the legal ambiguity that has slowed entry in other jurisdictions.

The company is also leaning into real-world payment use cases tied to RLUSD, including remittances and corporate treasury workflows, as Turkish users look for alternatives amid ongoing lira volatility. Ripple's October 5 commentary points to on-chain settlement, programmable dollars and 24/7 liquidity as functional benefits, framing stablecoins less as a trading asset and more as working financial infrastructure. By tying custody, stablecoin rails and licensed banking partners together, Ripple is treating Turkey as a template for how it plans to enter other inflation-pressured markets where regulated crypto access is in demand.
