DeFi Dev Corp parks another $3M in SOL, calls light-speed buying "lightning speed" ⚡

DeFi Development Corp., the Nasdaq-listed company with the second-largest Solana treasury, acquired 26,202 SOL worth approximately $3 million between Sept. 28 and Oct. 2, according to an 8-K filing. Ticker DFDV now holds 2,564,212 SOL and "SOL equivalents," a term the filing does not define, valued at $302 million, a roughly 1% increase from the 2,538,010 SOL it held on Sept. 25. CEO Joseph Onorati described the pace in a company press release by saying, "The DFDV ship is flying at lightning speed. We have continued buying SOL and have grown our treasury by 11% since August 12." Weekly purchases, however, have stepped down from 101,381 SOL in the week ending Sept. 18 and 47,706 SOL the following week.

DFDV operates as a digital asset treasury company that applies the Bitcoin-balance-sheet model popularized by Strategy to Solana and runs its own network validators. It pitches itself as magnified SOL exposure for brokerage-account investors. To fund the buys, the company sells CHAD, a preferred share with a stated $10 amount paying 13% annually, or $1.30 per share, a rate the board can adjust. A $300 million at-the-market share program supports the strategy. On Sept. 1, the company offered 2.2 million CHAD shares at $9, a potential $19.8 million raise; the IPO priced two days later at 1,375,000 shares at $8, for approximately $11 million.

The company, previously known as commercial real estate platform Janover before its 2025 pivot, reported preliminary third-quarter estimates as of Sept. 30, stating that SOL per share and total SOL have grown by double digits since Aug. 12, and that net asset value per share, calculated by subtracting debt and preferred stock from holdings and cash, has increased more than 100%. DFDV reported holding nearly 600,000 SOL in May 2025 and now holds more than four times that amount. The treasury-company model relies on issuing shares at a premium to net asset value to expand holdings, a structure that introduces dilution risk when that premium compresses.
