Uptober Pulls Up a Chair, Sits on Every Chart 🪑
Bitcoin traded at $86,500 on Sunday, up 2.07% on the day and 8.57% over the past 30 days, while Ethereum sat at $2,720, up 11.05% over the same period, according to the Morning Minute newsletter written by Tyler Warner. Nearly every token in the top ten by market capitalization posted gains, extending the early-October rally that has become colloquially known on Crypto Twitter as "Uptober."
Spot Bitcoin ETFs added $31.7 million on Friday and $102.7 million on Thursday, bringing October's two-day inflow total to $134.4 million, according to the newsletter. That marked a two-session streak of net positive flows after September closed with a $148.7 million outflow across the products.
Outside the top two tokens, the newsletter flagged Pump.fun up 26.2% and LayerZero up 19.8% on the week, with Sky and Aave also posting double-digit weekly gains. "Those aren't meme coins, they're protocols that make money, and most of them run buyback programs," the newsletter noted, adding that the Securities and Exchange Commission said eight days ago that a network buying back its own token does not make it a security so long as the network continues to function.
The newsletter observed that ETF flows remained subdued during a week of broad-based gains, suggesting "it's more likely crypto-native funds driving this recent price action rather than institutions." Separately, OKXICE, the joint venture between crypto exchange OKX and New York Stock Exchange owner Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), notified the SEC that it plans to launch a round-the-clock trading venue for tokenized U.S. stocks, according to a tweet from co-chair Andrew Cuomo on Monday. The venture filed the notice dated October 4 under the SEC's "Innovation Exemption," which since September 17 has allowed qualifying venues to trade tokenized stocks without registering as exchanges, with OKXICE set to operate 24-hour trading.
Additional items on the day's slate included the SEC proposing rules that would let advisors and funds hold crypto directly, the Ethereum Foundation launching zkAPI for private AI, and Bitcoin hovering near $86,400 as the broader market posted 3–4% gains while oil and bonds cooled.
