XRP Asia Lands in Seoul: Banks Show Up, Hedge Fund Crashers Don't 🚂
XRP Asia officially launched on October 3, 2026, debuting with a live session at the Grand Hyatt Seoul during Korea Blockchain Week. The newly formed regional body, created to accelerate XRP Ledger adoption across Asia, brought Woori Bank and Kakao Bank onstage alongside Ripple's Tatsuya Kohrogi, signaling institutional involvement from day one. The entity's stated mandate includes supporting builders and onboarding banks to the underlying payment rails.
Leading the organization is President Sabrina Tachdjian, who previously served as VP of Fintech and Payments at the Hedera Foundation. Her background in regulated finance and payments infrastructure is positioned as central to the group's institutional focus. XRP Asia builds on existing live deployments in Korea, including Jeonbuk Bank's real-time Ripple Payments integration, which has been processing transactions on the network prior to the launch.
The timing of the launch aligns with the early-October activation window for two XRPL amendments: Permission Delegation and Batch. Both are described as bank-grade tooling upgrades intended to support custody workflows and high-volume transaction processing on the ledger. Developers and validator operators had tracked the amendments through the amendment process ahead of the scheduled activation.
Korean financial institutions have already moved beyond pilot announcements. Woori Bank and Kakao Bank's public participation in the Seoul event follows documented activity on Ripple's payment infrastructure in the region, including remittance corridors and interbank settlement testing. The presence of both banks on stage was framed by organizers as evidence that institutional engagement has progressed past the announcement phase.
The launch was accompanied by ecosystem showcases featuring builders operating on XRPL, along with partner presentations from across the Ripple ally network. Event programming emphasized real-world deployment over speculative use cases, with sessions covering tokenization, stablecoin settlement, and cross-border payment integration for the Asian market. Further regional events are expected to follow under the XRP Asia banner as the organization scales its operations.
