Arthur Hayes still thinks Bitcoin hits $1M — and now he's even picked the year 🤝

Maelstrom CIO Arthur Hayes has reiterated his long-standing call for Bitcoin to reach $1 million, this time attaching a concrete timeline to the projection that has circulated since he first floated it in 2025. In a recent essay, Hayes pointed to 2030 as the potential target year for $BTC to hit the seven-figure mark, while flagging late 2027 and early 2028 as the critical window for any parabolic move. Bitcoin was trading near $83,700 at the time of writing, roughly flat on the day and still pinned below the $85,000 resistance level that traders have been watching.

Hayes' thesis hinges on a familiar macro playbook: an artificial intelligence infrastructure downturn would compress tech valuations, drag equities lower, and force the US Federal Reserve back into an easing cycle. That pivot, in his view, would unlock liquidity injections from the central bank that ultimately benefit hard money assets such as $BTC. The argument tracks the pattern Hayes laid out in earlier writings, where easy policy and balance-sheet expansion served as the launchpad for prior Bitcoin rallies.

The timing specifics are new. Hayes has previously declined to attach a year to the $1 million target, citing uncertainty around the precise sequencing of an AI-driven capex unwind and a subsequent Fed response. By narrowing the window to a roughly two-year stretch beginning in late 2027, he is signaling greater conviction in the causal chain, even as the spot market remains unmoved near current levels.

Macro data this week offered a tentative tailwind for that narrative. The latest US Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) inflation print came in softer than feared, easing some concerns that the Federal Reserve would lean hawkish into year-end. Rate-cut expectations ticked higher in response, and risk assets stabilized, though $BTC failed to break the $85,000 wall that has capped the latest recovery attempt.

Hayes, a co-founder of BitMEX and head of the Maelstrom family office, has built much of his public brand around long-horizon Bitcoin calls that diverge sharply from consensus. Whether the 2030 target becomes a self-fulfilling marker for the trade or simply another data point in an ongoing debate, his willingness to put a date on a seven-figure $BTC is the kind of specificity the market rarely gets from him, and it ensures the $1 million conversation will follow Bitcoin into whatever year comes next.
