Phemex Says the Last Mile of Trading Is a Receipt, Not a Reward Tier 🧾
Phemex has rolled out a crypto payment card designed to settle transactions directly from users' spot accounts, converting supported stablecoins at the moment of payment rather than requiring a pre-loaded wallet, the company said on September 14. The product, called the Phemex Card, operates as a virtual Mastercard accepted at more than 100 million merchants globally and is being expanded market by market as regulatory and onboarding requirements are completed. Cashback is paid in $USDT back to the user's Spot balance, with no monthly cap.
The launch comes as crypto card transaction volumes grew from roughly $100 million per month in early 2023 to over $1.5 billion by late 2025, according to Artemis Analytics. Phemex CEO Federico Variola framed the card as a response to how the exchange's users already move capital. "Instead of asking how to make spending more exciting, we asked how to make the transition from market allocation to real-world execution more efficient," Variola told BeInCrypto.
The card's design differs from most market offerings, which compete on cashback tiers, perk structures, and lifestyle incentives. Instead of a separate card wallet, funds remain in the trading environment until the moment they are spent, with stablecoin-to-fiat conversion executed in real time. Phemex described the approach as closing what it calls the last mile of the trading ecosystem, referring to the sequence of converting to fiat, withdrawing through a bank, waiting for settlement, and then spending.
The exchange said its user base is composed primarily of traders and capital allocators whose priority is the movement of capital between active positions, stable assets, and real-world spending. According to Phemex, this workflow made traditional rewards-based cards "slightly misaligned," since rewards programs tend to encourage consumption rather than efficient capital deployment. The Phemex Card is offered in partnership with Mastercard, and supported assets at launch include $USDT and $USDC.
