Brazil's $4T Goes Onchain Twice in One Day as Ripple and Cardano Both Pick a Fight With Paperwork 🇧🇷

Brazil's largest financial market infrastructure operator, CSD BR, began mirroring ownership records for selected BTG Pactual investment funds on the public XRP Ledger, marking what Ripple called the first time a licensed central securities depository has recorded securities ownership on a public blockchain. The deployment, announced on September 30, 2026, adds a near-real-time verification layer to live fund records, while CSD BR's database remains the official source for registration, custody and settlement. CSD BR oversees more than 22 trillion reais, or roughly $4 trillion, in registered assets. Approved banks and companies can now check the XRPL copy against CSD BR's database at any moment, allowing discrepancies to be identified earlier in the reconciliation process. The pilot uses XRPL's Multi-Purpose Token standard combined with Ripple's custody infrastructure, with access limited to corporate and banking clients that meet strict identification requirements. Ripple's Latin America director, Silvio Pegado, described the launch as a major industry milestone, and CSD BR said it plans to explore native asset issuance, with a possible later expansion into fixed-income products once the pilot phase concludes.

Separately, the Cardano Foundation unveiled two blockchain applications built with Petrobras, Brazil's state-controlled energy company, as part of an ongoing R&D collaboration with Petrobras and PUC-Rio. The first tracks sustainable aviation fuel using a Book-and-Claim model, allowing airlines, companies or individual passengers to claim verified credits regardless of where the fuel was produced. The second traces renewable diesel, branded Diesel R by Petrobras, across production, transport and use, addressing Scope 3 emissions reporting that companies often struggle to consolidate. Rafael Fraga, the Cardano Foundation's Latin America lead, said the energy transition "will depend as much on trust as it does on new fuels." Brazil's oil and gas market could reach $28.82 billion by 2031, according to figures cited in the announcement.

Together, the two partnerships put institutional blockchain infrastructure deeper into regulated corners of Latin America's largest economy, spanning capital markets and energy supply chains. $XRP's price was not detailed in the partnership announcements, while $ADA traded near $0.2549, up a modest 0.9% over the prior 24 hours and still more than 91% below its all-time high reached in 2021.
