Anthropic Taps SpaceX Compute for Up to $84.5B Through 2029 — Cancel Anytime 🚀

—By our Markets Desk2 min read

Anthropic has agreed to spend up to $84.5 billion on AI computing capacity from SpaceX through 2029, according to confidential IPO documents detailing the arrangement. The agreement centers on Nvidia-based computing resources designated for training and operating advanced artificial intelligence models, and it can reportedly be canceled by Anthropic with 90 days' notice, a structure that gives the company more flexibility than several of its other long-term infrastructure commitments.

The deal is part of a broader infrastructure push, with Anthropic expecting total AI infrastructure obligations to reach at least $518 billion across multiple technology partners. The company has framed sustained access to compute as central to its roadmap for advanced AI systems, and it is continuing to secure capacity from additional providers to meet projected demand.

Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 belongs to the company's new Claude 5.5 model family, which supports coding, research, and professional knowledge work. The firm has said Claude Opus 5.5 delivers performance close to Claude Fable 5.1 while reducing costs for common workloads, underscoring the operational efficiency the compute deals are intended to support.

The SpaceX agreement was reported alongside additional commitments involving Google and other partners, reinforcing the scale of capital that Anthropic is committing to AI infrastructure through the end of the decade. Industry filings indicate the cumulative exposure spans chip procurement, data center buildouts, and long-horizon capacity reservations designed to keep pace with model training requirements.

Neither Anthropic nor SpaceX has publicly commented on the reported terms beyond what appears in the IPO documents, and the filings do not specify scheduled payment milestones. The structure leaves the bulk of the headline figure as a maximum obligation rather than a guaranteed spend, while the 90-day cancellation clause limits Anthropic's downside if compute demand or pricing shifts before 2029.
