Bitcoin reclaimed ground lost on Monday, trading at $84,170 at 06:28 a.m. EDT on Sept. 29, 2026, up 0.82% since midnight UTC and 1.4% over 24 hours, according to CoinDesk data. The CoinDesk 100 added 0.89% to 1,904.49, with 72 of its 100 constituents in the green. The advance came even as the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield sat at 5.234% after closing Monday above 5.2%, a level last seen in 2007, and the 30-year yield held at 5.549% having topped 5.56% on Monday, around a 2004 high. U.S. equities fell for a second straight session on Monday, with the Dow dropping more than 300 points and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite shedding 0.8% and 0.9%, respectively, while futures traded mixed on Tuesday morning.

Decentralized finance led the cryptocurrency complex for the second time in a week, with the CoinDesk DeFi Select Index (DFX) gaining 5.0% since midnight. Lending protocol token aave (AAVE) jumped 11% to $149.48 after Stani Kulechov indicated a token burn may form part of the upcoming Aavenomics upgrade. Curve DAO token (CRV) added 5.2% to $0.3457, while the CoinDesk 80 rose 2.0% against the CoinDesk 5's 1.3% gain, though that ranking inverted over 24 hours, with the CD5 up 1.7% versus the CD80's 0.44%. Privacy tokens were the sharpest decliners, with zcash (ZEC) tumbling 4.1% to $1,422.35 and 8.4% over 24 hours, and dash (DASH) falling 6.4% to $61.38 from $65.39, extending a retreat that has taken zcash roughly 13% below its Friday level.

In traditional markets, Brent crude eased 0.85% to $97.92, holding below $100 after Monday's spike, gold added 0.68% to $4,140, and the U.S. dollar index firmed 0.18% to 101.36. Derivatives positioning remained in retreat: futures open interest held at $149.36 billion as of 09:45 UTC, little changed from the prior day's $150 billion, while volume rose 26% to $218 billion following Monday's 70% jump. Liquidations were flat at $389 million, and the 24-hour long/short volume ratio balanced out after sellers held a slight edge the prior day at 46.9% to 53.1%.

Bitcoin-specific derivatives painted a similar picture, with futures open interest slipping to 644,000 BTC from 650,000 BTC the previous day, the lowest level since March 4, 2026. Funding rates returned above zero after Monday's negative readings, and the 24-hour open-interest-adjusted cumulative volume delta was neutral, signaling that bearish conviction among futures traders continued to ease.
