Bitcoin's 13-Year Curse Gets Cracked as September Snaps the August Streak 📈

Bitcoin is on the verge of closing September with a gain of about 7%, following a 25% rally in August, putting the asset on track for a third consecutive monthly advance from July through September. A positive September close would mark the first time since 2013 that a green August has been followed by a green September, breaking a 13-year pattern observed by CoinDesk. The third quarter would end up more than 40%, its first positive quarter since Q3 2025.

Bitcoin is trading at $84,000. Historical data tracked by CoinGlass puts the average fourth-quarter gain for $BTC at roughly 77%, though the macroeconomic backdrop heading into the final stretch of the year is unsettled. Global bond yields are climbing, with the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield above 5.2% and the MOVE index, a gauge of bond market volatility, above 100 and approaching year-to-date highs. Oil is holding above $90 a barrel, adding to inflation pressure, while gold slipped about 3% on Monday to just above $4,000 an ounce.

Two November catalysts could reshape liquidity conditions for risk assets. Anthropic's reported plans for a November IPO could pull investor attention and capital toward a major new equity listing, although the offering's timing and size have not been finalized. The U.S. midterm elections are also scheduled for November, with policy uncertainty likely to influence positioning across markets.

Earlier on Monday, $BTC held near $83,000 while ZEC dropped 12% and oil extended its climb, according to CoinDesk markets coverage. Separately, Goldman Sachs has brought a $100 billion Treasury fund into crypto's institutional plumbing, and Near Intents blocked $50 million in Bitget hacker swaps. Anthropic has separately drawn attention for plans to spend $518 billion on AI infrastructure, though pre-IPO perpetuals barely reacted.
