NVIDIA Greenlights $150B Stock Snack While Rolling Out AI Safety Cradle 🤖
NVIDIA announced a $150 billion increase to its share repurchase program on Monday, lifting total buyback authorization to $235 billion in what the company described as the largest share repurchase increase in history. The chipmaker said it expects to execute the remaining program through fiscal year 2028, giving the company expanded capacity to return capital to shareholders alongside its artificial intelligence and accelerated computing growth.
The buyback expansion follows an earlier $80 billion repurchase approval granted after the company's first-quarter fiscal earnings results this year. NVIDIA stock rose about 1.63% to $228.73 in premarket trading on Monday following the announcement.
Alongside the capital return move, NVIDIA introduced the Open Agent Safety Platform, an open software platform and reference system design intended to govern AI agents from testing through deployment. The release comes amid ongoing industry calls for stronger AI safety measures as autonomous agent systems become more widely adopted.
The platform is positioned as infrastructure for developers building AI agents, offering reference designs that address safety, security and governance considerations during the agent lifecycle. NVIDIA framed the launch as part of its broader effort to support the development of AI technologies alongside its core hardware business.
The dual announcement highlights NVIDIA's parallel focus on shareholder returns and responsible AI development as demand for its graphics processing units continues to power data center and machine learning workloads across the technology sector.
