Riot Squares Up: Miner Hands Coinbase Its $200M IOU, Keeps Its Bitcoin, Cash and Dignity 💼
Bitcoin miner Riot Platforms has fully repaid a $200 million credit facility from Coinbase Credit, retiring the debt without early termination fees or penalties, according to a Friday filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The facility had been secured by a pledge of the company's financial assets, including Bitcoin, USDC and cash, held in the custody of Coinbase Custody Trust Company. Riot finished paying the remaining principal and interest on Monday.
The repayment frees the collateral that had backed the loan and leaves Riot with no early-repayment penalties, per the filing. The Coinbase Credit facility had been a key piece of short-term financing for the miner as it balanced Bitcoin production with capital spending on its expanding infrastructure.
Riot has continued to build out its data-center business alongside its mining operations. Cointelegraph reported in August that the company signed a 20-year agreement to supply 191 megawatts of capacity from its Rockdale, Texas, campus to a "leading frontier AI" company. Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter, later reported the customer was Anthropic and the deal was valued at about $9 billion.
Riot Platforms posted $167.2 million in revenue for the first quarter of 2026, with its newly launched data center business contributing $33.2 million, as Cointelegraph reported in May. The figures underscore how AI-related capacity contracts have begun to rival, and in some quarters complement, the company's traditional Bitcoin mining revenue.
