CoinMarketCap Swallows CoinGlass Whole, Asks Derivatives Data to Please Stay Independent

—By our Markets Desk2 min read

CoinMarketCap has acquired crypto derivatives data provider CoinGlass for an undisclosed sum, widening the price-tracking site's lens to include leveraged trading metrics across major venues. CoinMarketCap announced Friday that CoinGlass will keep its existing brand, leadership team and product lineup intact.

The deal leaves CoinGlass's website, mobile app, free tools, API and pricing unchanged. The platform, which tracks open interest, funding rates, liquidations and options activity, covers 28 exchanges and more than 2,500 instruments, according to the announcement.

CoinMarketCap said the acquisition would let users view derivatives positioning alongside cryptocurrency prices, surfacing where liquidations tend to cluster and how funding rates shift across markets. CoinGlass founder and CEO Kevin Xu, in a post on X, framed the move as a way to bring "all the alpha into a single dashboard," describing himself as "still bootstrapped, just with better Swiss Army knives now."

Binance acquired CoinMarketCap in April 2020. At the time, Binance said the platform would continue operating independently and that the exchange would have no influence over its rankings. CoinMarketCap chief operating officer Rush Yamaguchi told The Block on Friday that those terms persist and that CoinGlass clients should not expect billing, ownership or branding changes.

The combined offerings will integrate CoinMarketCap's spot price coverage with CoinGlass's derivatives stack on a shared infrastructure, though specific product timelines were not disclosed. No layoffs, relocations or executive exits were announced as part of the transaction.
