Litecoin slips out of the group chat, sprints 8% while Bitcoin naps 🪙

Litecoin ($LTC) jumped nearly 8% to $66.55 over the past 24 hours, its highest level since January, while the rest of the crypto market posted losses. The token, ranked 24th by market capitalization, is up 37% this month, marking its strongest performance since November 2024, according to CoinDesk. Bitcoin ($BTC) fell 3% to $83,502.93 over the same 24-hour period and has gained only 6% for the month, with ether ($ETH), XRP, SOL and other top-10 coins tracking a similarly muted trajectory.

The Litecoin Foundation attributed the move to a surge in on-chain settlement. "Yesterday over $1 Billion of value, over 17M Litecoin, moved across the Litecoin network in 24 hours. This is the Adjusted Economic Volume or 'payments' as @ForceXHQ denotes. While not a daily high for the year, that would be $2.51B in 24hrs back in May, it's a massive percentage of $LTC's market cap. A clear sign as to the activity on chain and its growing use case," the foundation said on X.

Analysts also pointed to Litecoin's approaching fourth block reward cut, due in July, which would reduce per-block rewards to 3.125 $LTC. The network halves its block reward every four years, and past cycles have seen $LTC bottom out anywhere between six to 12 months ahead of the event.

The price move has coincided with renewed capital inflows into derivatives tied to the token, though the underlying reason for the outperformance remains unclear. Looking at the wider market, Alex Kuptsikevich, chief market analyst at The FxPro, said in an email that "It is worth remembering that in 2021, Bitcoin lost over 50% from its peak before reaching new highs. Similarly, today, a decline to $70K may be painful for short-term speculators, but it does not undermine the bullish outlook."
