XRP's $9B Futures Flex Leaves Hyperliquid and Zcash Eating Altcoin Dust
XRP futures open interest climbed to $4.10 billion over the past 24 hours, a nine-month high that pushed the Ripple-linked token past Hyperliquid and Zcash, according to Coinglass data cited by CoinGape. Derivatives traders drove the surge, with futures volume across exchanges reaching $9.4 billion against $2.2 billion in spot volume and lifting XRP price 7% to a high of $1.62. CME remained a core venue after recently surpassing Binance: CME Group data showed XRP futures open interest on the Chicago exchange jumped more than 16% in 24 hours and 14% in four hours to $756 million, with a daily volume of 10,559 contracts.
Spot market data told a different story about Binance activity. CryptoQuant figures reported by CryptoNews showed average daily XRP inflows to Binance of 21,718,631 tokens last week, a figure 663% above the exchange's quarterly baseline. CryptoNews noted the increase reflected a sharp rise in gross exchange turnover concentrated in a handful of sessions rather than a steady buildup, and that the data do not confirm outright intent to sell.
The churn coincided with two scheduled events. On September 15, the U.S. Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act after a 49-50 procedural vote, stalling the bill's push for formal regulatory definitions of digital assets including XRP. The following day, the Federal Reserve raised its target rate by 25 basis points to 3.75%-4.00%, its first hike since 2023. XRP fell toward $1.27 during the FOMC news before recovering to close at $1.410 on September 19, according to CryptoNews. The timing of the spikes lines up cleanly with the policy events but does not by itself establish causation.
Market commentary has reflected the same catalyst-driven mood. Trader John (@CryptoGodJohn) posted on September 17, 2026, "Now that FOMC & Clarity act are behind us let's resume up only." XRP's combination of record derivatives open interest, heavy futures volume on CME and Binance, and continued spot ETF inflows has placed the token at the center of renewed institutional and retail attention, even as exchange reserve flows remain difficult to read from a single inflow figure alone.
