X's $BTC Cashtag Gets a 'Trade' Button Because Timeline and Broker Are Now BFFs 📈
Elon Musk's X has expanded its U.S. Cashtag Partner Program with Coinbase, Gemini, Kraken, Interactive Brokers and Moomoo, allowing users to move from a ticker symbol such as $BTC or $TSLA directly to a participating brokerage without leaving the app. When a user taps a supported cashtag, the asset page now displays price charts, related posts and a new "Trade" option that redirects to one of the five partner platforms, where eligible customers can sign in or open an account to complete a transaction.
X does not execute trades or hold customer assets through the feature. Account setup, order execution and other trading services are handled by the participating financial companies, which manage their own compliance and onboarding requirements. "Cashtags close the gap between a ticker on the timeline and the market itself," X Product Engineering Lead Mridul Singhai said.
Cashtags have been available on X for years as a way to surface financial market discussions, and earlier this year the company upgraded them with real-time prices and charts. The new "Trade" entry point extends that work by linking the timeline directly to brokers and exchanges, a step in Musk's broader effort to position X as a finance destination alongside its social functions.
Coinbase, Gemini and Kraken provide the crypto exchange connections, while Interactive Brokers and Moomoo cover traditional equities and exchange-traded funds. The rollout is limited to American users at launch, with X handling routing and presentation and leaving custody and execution to its partners. X reported around 132 million daily active users on mobile and more than 245 million daily active users globally across all devices.
Alongside the trading integration, X unveiled Grok 4.7, describing the AI model as its most capable release for coding and knowledge work, with twice the speed and half the price of its predecessor.
