Crypto's Total Market Cap Just Round-Tripped Right Back to January — Cue the Exit Liquidity 🎭
Bitcoin's push back toward $86,000 has drawn a crowd of bullish retail traders convinced the bear market is over. Dan Krupka, founder of Connection Capital and former research head at Coin Bureau, is not among them. Krupka, whose January 1 roadmap for 2026 drew a short Q1 pop, a steep grind through Q2 into a summer bottom, and a relief leg into late Q3 and Q4, said the total crypto market cap has round-tripped to its January baseline exactly on the schedule he mapped out. He described the current environment as the tail end of a textbook relief rally setting up a liquidity trap heading into the fourth quarter.
Krupka noted that the total crypto market cap is pressing against the monthly Bollinger Band baseline, a level he characterized as the line typically separating sustained bull markets from prolonged distribution. He expects a fakeout above that band rather than a clean rejection on the initial touch, with a final push higher before a sharp reversal. Anyone buying at $86,000, he warned, may simply be providing exit liquidity for sellers positioned at higher levels.
Krupka outlined specific short-term price zones: Bitcoin (BTC) has room to run another 20% to 30% to tag the $96,000 area, where he expects heavy profit-taking to stall the tape short of six figures. Ethereum (ETH) could squeeze into overhead supply between $3,300 and $3,500. Solana (SOL) could see a relief push to $140–$160. He cautioned that explosive upside moves are typically followed by sharp retracements, and the third quarter may end with violent repricing rather than continuation.
