Venice AI's VVV Prints 3,000% Run as Erik Voorhees' Privacy Chatbot Crosses $100M Run-Rate 🔑
Venice AI's native token VVV hit a fresh all-time high of $34.51 on Sunday, extending a roughly 17% move over 24 hours and a gain of about 3,000% from its $0.92 low last December, according to market data. The token's market capitalization now sits near $1.6 billion, placing it as the third-largest AI-focused cryptocurrency, behind Near and Tao. VVV functions as an access key for Venice AI, a chatbot and image generator built by Erik Voorhees, the early Bitcoin entrepreneur and founder of ShapeShift. Rather than billing users per prompt, Venice lets holders stake VVV in a smart contract to claim a daily share of the platform's inference compute, while fiat subscriptions remain available. Locked VVV mints a second token called DIEM, which delivers a dollar of API credit per day to the holder, a structure Venice describes as tying token value to platform usage. A portion of platform revenue is also used to buy VVV on the open market and permanently burn it.
Venice's pitch centers on privacy: the company says it retains no logs, requires no account, and applies none of the content filters used by mainstream chatbots, meaning prompts are not stored or reused for model training. That positioning drew renewed attention in September after a public dispute between an NYU mathematician and OpenAI over credit for a fluid-dynamics proof, a debate that circulated on X and Hacker News and prompted questions about whether providers could repurpose private user inputs. VVV rose 34% in a single day during that period and has climbed sharply since.
The platform's underlying business has grown alongside the token. Venice said in August that annualized revenue had crossed a $100 million run rate, up from $70 million a month earlier. In July, the company raised $65 million in a Series A led by crypto fund Dragonfly at a $1 billion valuation, its first outside funding since launching in 2024. Annual token emissions have been cut multiple times, falling from 14 million VVV at launch to 2.5 million as of September 1, with a further reduction to 2 million scheduled.
