XRP Prints 7% Candle, Narrows Death Cross Gap to a Knife's Edge 🪙
XRP posted one of its sharpest single-day moves in weeks on Friday, gaining 6.93% to settle near $1.3863 after touching an intraday high of $1.4028 from an open of $1.2964. The move came as Bitcoin reclaimed $80,000 following a stretch marked by a Federal Reserve rate hike, the Senate's 49-50 vote against advancing the Clarity Act, and a surprise rate hike from the Bank of Japan. Bitcoin's share of total crypto market value slipped from 64% to 59%, signaling rotation into altcoins.
Spot trading tells the same story with louder numbers. XRP spot volume hit approximately $1.36 billion in 24 hours, according to CoinGlass, while total tracked turnover on CoinMarketCap approached $4.9 billion, up roughly 90% on the day. The rally, which carried price back above $1.41, functioned as a short squeeze that wiped roughly $8.05 million in short positions, with longs absorbing only about $2.36 million in losses by comparison. Broader leveraged crypto liquidations topped $300 million as Bitcoin pushed past $81,000. XRP futures volume still ran at $5.71 billion, roughly four times spot turnover, leaving the relief rally exposed to a fast unwind if leverage flushes.
The chart structure is also tightening. XRP's 50-day exponential moving average remains below its 200-day EMA, the bearish configuration chart watchers call a death cross, but the gap between the two averages has narrowed to its tightest reading since the last golden cross in August 2024. If the current pace of gains holds, a daily-chart crossover could print as soon as mid-October. On the 4-hour chart, a golden cross already formed on August 21, though the gap there has been closing rather than expanding.
Other daily indicators are more clearly constructive. The Average Directional Index (ADX) sits at 35.2, above the 25 threshold separating a real trend from chop, with the positive directional line (DI+) running above the negative one (DI-). The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is at 54.6, in neutral territory and well below overbought levels after the 7% daily gain. The Squeeze Momentum Indicator has remained "on" for 11 consecutive bars.
Demand-side context cuts both ways. US spot XRP ETF inflows have topped $1.7 billion, providing a structural floor, while 1.6 billion XRP in whale deposits to Binance has added a counterweight of potential supply. Bitcoin's broader bounce reopened the door to risk-on positioning across altcoins, and XRP's tape is now reflecting that rotation in both price and volume.
