Binance Takes Perpetuals Past Friday's Closing Bell 📊

—By our Exchanges & Companies Desk2 min read

Binance is launching 24/7 foreign exchange perpetual futures, starting with a USD-Brazilian real contract that goes live on Sept. 21 at 14:00 UTC and settles in USDT. The USDBRLUSDT contract offers up to 100x leverage, a minimum trade size of 0.01 USDBRL, a minimum notional value of 5 USDT and a tick size of 0.0001, and is offered in Multi-Assets Mode.

Unlike traditional FX markets, which pause on weekends, Binance's contracts will trade continuously using a dual-mode pricing system. During regular FX trading hours, from Sunday at 17:00 ET to Friday at 17:00 ET, prices will track a weighted index from third-party data providers, updated every second. On weekends and public holidays, the exchange will switch to an orderbook-based pricing mechanism using an exponentially weighted moving average of orderbook prices, rather than relying on external price feeds. The product expands Binance's TradFi Perpetual category and has no expiration or rollover.

"FX is one of the world's most foundational markets," said Shunyet Jan, Binance's Head of Exchange and Trading, adding that the contracts are intended to extend price discovery beyond traditional FX trading periods and give traders a venue to hedge or take positions around the clock. Binance framed the launch as part of its push to bring currency exposure to crypto-native traders without requiring them to hold the underlying assets.

The move follows similar products from competitors. Bybit introduced 24/7 perpetuals tracking EUR/USD, GBP/USD and USD/JPY earlier this month, also settled in USDT and offering up to 100x leverage. Kraken launched FX perpetuals tracking the euro, British pound, Australian dollar, Japanese yen and Swiss franc in April 2025 with up to 50x leverage, after offering spot FX since 2020 and reporting $5.7 billion in FX spot volume in the first part of 2025. Global OTC FX turnover averaged $9.6 trillion a day in April 2025, according to the Bank for International Settlements, underscoring the scale of the market the exchanges are targeting.
