Bitcoin's $80K Wall Gets Crowded: Two Analysts, One Floor, Zero Invites 🚪
Bitcoin is trading near $77,183 after rebounding from support around $76,200, with price action now consolidating between $76,000 and $80,000 following an August recovery from $62,000 that briefly pushed $BTC above $82,000. Trader Michaël van de Poppe outlined a short-term scenario in which Bitcoin dips into nearby support before rebounding toward $79,500 and eventually challenging $82,700. His 30-minute $BTC/$USDT chart shows price still sitting below a marked resistance near $79,516, with the projected path pointing lower before turning sharply upward.
A broader technical test looms in the $80,000-$83,000 zone, according to trader Zoran Kole, who expects sellers to defend that area during the first few attempts and potentially set up a pullback toward $73,000 before another push higher. The daily $BTC/$USDT chart shows Bitcoin reclaiming the previous range high near $73,341, with heavier resistance beginning around $79,424 and extending into the 80K-83K region. A clean break above that band would put the CME gap near $84,270 in focus, while a sustained move below roughly $73,000 would undermine the rebound structure and increase the risk of a deeper retreat toward reference levels near $67,855 and $62,345. Kole's stated outlook centers on $BTC spending the next several weeks in a broad $70,000-$80,000 range.
CoinShares Head of Research James Butterfill added a fundamental layer, writing in a report published Friday that Bitcoin's ability to sustain a rise above $80,000 is becoming more difficult due to a more hawkish Federal Reserve and recent negative developments regarding the Clarity Act. "A more hawkish Fed and setbacks in the Clarity Act," Butterfill identified as the two major short-term obstacles for $BTC, adding that unless there is a significant improvement in the inflation outlook or a major shift in expectations regarding Fed monetary policy, a definitive breakout above $80,000 is unlikely. Butterfill also noted that Bitcoin is relatively more protected than Ethereum and other altcoins due to its clearer current regulatory status.
On-chain firm Glassnode pointed to the same $80,000 area from a different angle, identifying approximately $80,421, the average purchase price of institutional Bitcoin treasury companies, as the next price level $BTC needs to surpass. Glassnode's analysis, posted on X, also flagged around $85,000, described as the cost floor of a US spot Bitcoin ETF, as the subsequent key area closely monitored by investors. Together, the chart work from Kole and van de Poppe, the macro commentary from Butterfill, and the on-chain levels from Glassnode leave $80,000 as the shared pivot: a level that, depending on which way it breaks, could either validate the recovery or extend the current consolidation.
