XRP tightens up as Bitcoin's rebound hands the altcoin crowd the keys 🗝️

XRP climbed 6.93% on the day, opening at $1.2964 and reaching an intraday high of $1.4028 before settling near $1.3863, as Bitcoin's push back above $80,000 prompted traders to rotate profits into altcoins. Bitcoin's share of total crypto market value fell from 64% to 59% over the stretch, a level shift that has historically marked periods of capital flowing down the risk curve into smaller tokens. XRP, the cryptocurrency created by Ripple's co-founders, has been one of the largest beneficiaries of that rotation.

Under the hood, XRP's daily chart still shows its 50-day exponential moving average (EMA) sitting below its 200-day EMA — a structure chart watchers call a "death cross" — but the gap between the two averages has narrowed sharply. The compression is the tightest since XRP's last golden cross in August 2024. A golden cross forms when a shorter-term average crosses above a longer-term one, and if the current pace of convergence holds, the setup could print on the daily chart as soon as mid-October.

On the noisier 4-hour chart, XRP's EMAs already flipped into a golden cross back on August 21, but rather than the gap widening the way a healthy breakout normally plays out, it has been closing again — a reminder that a crossover failing to hold on a shorter timeframe does not guarantee the same signal will confirm on the daily chart. Some analysts argue that shorter and longer timeframes should be studied independently, since the 4-hour flip has not yet pulled the daily structure along with it.

The rest of the indicator board on the daily frame is more encouraging. The Average Directional Index (ADX) sits at 35.2 — comfortably above the 25 line traders use to separate a real trend from aimless chop — with the positive directional indicator (DI+) running above the negative one (DI-). The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is at 54.6, in neutral territory and leaving room for further upside before overbought conditions set in.

XRP's Squeeze Momentum Indicator has also been flashing "on" for 11 straight bars, a stretch of built-up energy that typically resolves with a directional move once the squeeze releases. The recent macro backdrop has been volatile, with a Federal Reserve rate hike, the Senate's 49-50 vote against advancing the Clarity Act, and a surprise rate hike from the Bank of Japan all weighing on sentiment before Bitcoin's recovery above $80,000 reopened the door to broader altcoin participation.
